KTP Laser for Acne Scars

If you have acne scars, you’re well aware of how crippling they can be to your appearance. The good news is, you do not need to live with acne scars. With the proper laser acne scar treatment, you can enjoy radical clearance and a scar-free complexion. There are different types of lasers that work for each various acne scar. For redness due to acne scars, the KTP laser is one of the top in-office acne scar treatment options.

How is the KTP Laser for Acne Scars Different?

Short for potassium titanyl-phosphate, the KTP laser targets many conditions that cause redness on the face, including rosacea, blood vessels and post-inflammatory erythema (the red marks left on the skin after acne lesions disappear). At Schweiger Dermatology, we advise our patients with deep, pitted acne scars to seek out a different laser treatment, such as Fraxel or another fractional CO2 laser. The KTP laser zaps the hemoglobin spots on the face, causing the blood vessels creating that red appearance to collapse.

What to Expect During KTP Laser Treatment for Acne Scars

When you arrive for your KTP laser treatment, your face will be cleansed and gel will get applied to the area of treatment. There is no need for a numbing cream, as the KTP laser for acne scar treatment is not painful. The laser will then treat the targeted areas. The entire KTP treatment takes only minutes, making it a great acne scar option for those with limited time. There is no downtime with the KTP laser and you can immediately resume normal activities or head back to work. Depending on your skin and acne marks, you may need an additional treatment. Some of our patients see significant improvement in their red marks after only one treatment, while others may need an additional one to two sessions with the KTP laser.
